How to repair plaster using a polymer modified mortar

Surface preparation

. Identify the area to be repaired and chip the damaged area to obtain a sound surface.
. Remove all loose material from the surface using a wire brush and wash with water.

Application

. Using a Latex based repair polymer apply a primer coat mixed with cement in the ratio 1:1 by weight.
. Prepare a polymer modified mortar (1 part cement + 3 parts sand + 20% Latex polymer + water as required) and while the primer coat is still tacky, using a trowel or a suitable tool, level the area to be repaired.
. Allow for sufficient curing by water.

Common causes for leaks in walls and terrace

Flaking paint, fungal formation, damp and humid smell when you enter your room. Oh God! Not another leak!

The most common cause for leaks in walls or ceiling:

. aging cement plaster on walls,
. improper maintenance of paint on external walls,
. rusting of rods (volume of rod increases) causing cracks in concrete,
. movement in parapet wall joints and other construction joints causing cracks
. gaps between window/door frames and masonry
. de-bonding or cracking of screed on terrace
. rising dampness due to high-water table
